Grocery stores in Colorado with ski lift tickets

Oh, the perennial burning question - What Colorado grocery stores sell ski lift tickets?  Nothing has changed lately - still the usual suspects in 2012.

The Colorado chain grocery stores that sell lift tickets are King Soopers/City Market, Safeway, and Albertson's.  Costco also sells lift tickets but I believe they only sell tickets to Eldora Mountain Resort.

There may be other small mountain town grocery stores that sell them.  I know there is a store off Interstate 70 in Dumont/Downieville/Lawson that sells discount lift tickets.  Just look for the big sign that reads 'FUEL'.

Before heading off to the store to purchase them, call ahead to make sure that store actually has the hard copy lift tickets in stock.  They don't print them out at the store - they keep limited quatities of tickets in a folder at the Service Desk.  The Service Desk isn't open 24/7 either.

Other Front Range non-grocery store options can be Christy Sports, REI, and a few other joints.  Call and make sure a particular location is selling the desired tickets.

Lift ticket prices fluctuate throughout the ski season at the grocery store.  They'll be more expensive during high demand times and cheaper during low peak times.  You'll need to call the store if you want to know the exact price for a specific date.

Watch your discount pass expirations dates

Discount ski passes are a great money-saving deal - if you use them. Otherwise, they can be real money wasters.

Ski resorts offer deals to get you to come up during slow periods of business. Many offer discount passes during these periods to bring in more guaranteed money. These discount ski passes usually come with specific use dates, are non-transferable, non-extendable, and non-refundable.

Read the fine print when you buy a discount pass with date limitations. You are bound by the fine print on the pass. Don't use the pass - and you are out of luck. If the pass terms say non-refundable - you are out the money if you didn't use the pass.

Discount ski season passes for the most part are also non-refundable. If you get hurt and you didn't spend the extra bucks for season pass insurance - kiss all that money you spend for the pass goodbye. If you bought ski pass insurance - file a claim and get your money back.

Discount passes are a great deal but don't go whining to the ski resort if you don't use it. They were open.

Breckenridge 4 Pack or 4 Pass?

by G. Kunkel

With the proliferation of 4 Passes and 4 Packs at Colorado ski resorts, seems people think every resort may have one.

Does Breckenridge Ski Resort have a 4 Pass or 4 Pack discount lift ticket package anymore?  Due to its popularity, the former Keystone - Breck 4 Pass is now only valid at Keystone.  The Breckenridge 4 Pass exists no more.

Breckenridge in 2012 is owned by Vail Resorts and falls under their discount lift ticket and pass policies. Want a discount ski pass to Breckenridge? - search for a discount to Vail Resorts owned ski resorts.

In Colorado 2012, Vail Resorts currently owns Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, and has a marketing agreement with Arapahoe Basin.

Skiers and snowboarders can purchase a 7 Day Epic Pass to Breckenridge instead of a 4 Pass or 4 Pack. Those needing more ski days should look into a Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, or Summit Pass. Again, these need to be purchased during the off-season.

Don't bother looking for a student discount, college student discount, or active duty military discount for any Epic Pass product. They are already discounted.  Update: An Epic Local College Pass is sold for a limited time.

So quit gaping and buy your discounted Vail Resorts Epic Pass product now. Sales typically end at the end of November.  They can all be purchased online and you don't have to be a Colorado resident.

Can you buy Vail lift tickets at King Soopers or City Market in 2012?

People still scour the internet searching for discount lift tickets to Vail. The biggest source of confusion is buying lift tickets for Vail at King Soopers, City Market, or Costco grocery stores.

The short answer is sort of. You can purchase them but not directly. In order to get a discount lift ticket to Vail you'll need to buy approximately 2 lift tickets to Keystone or Breckenridge first. If you buy a 3 Day lift ticket pass to either of these resorts, one day can be used at Vail or Beaver Creek. Buy a 5 Day Pass to Breck and 2 Days can be used at Vail.

Can you buy Vail or Beaver Creek only discount lift tickets at King Soopers in 2012 or anytime? The quick answer is - No. If you want to buy discount lift tickets to Vail or Beaver Creek you'll need to buy them with your lodging package deal or directly from Vail Resorts during the off-season.

Those who are travel agents, ski patrol, ski instructors, and active duty military can get discounts at the lift ticket window anytime. Just show your professional association ID. The current lift ticket price will depend entirely upon if it is a blackout period or holiday period.

If you have an extremely good friend who is a Vail Resorts employee, they may let you use one of their 50% off coupons. Not a friend - don't ask.

Another option is to Buy a 7 Day Epic Pass during the off-season. They are on sale right now for the 2012 - 2013 ski season.

So quit acting like a gaper and look for discount lift tickets to Vail in all the wrong places. Vail guarantees it has the best lift ticket prices on its website. No need to look anyplace else.
