Cheapest Breckenridge lift tickets

by G. Kunkel

Due to its popularity, cheap discount lift tickets to Breckenridge are pretty impossible to find.  With some pre ski season planning one can find some less expensive lift tickets.

Epic Pass

Those planning to stay several weeks should get a season pass.  They can be purchased online April through mid-November at the Vail Resorts website  at http://www.snow.com/epic-pass.aspx   Anyone can buy them online.

Friends and Family lift tickets

Find an Epic Passholder and get them to buy a lift ticket for you.  Expect to pay a premium above the cost of the lift ticket.

Vail Resorts employees

Employees get a few 50% lift ticket coupons.  Expect them to save them for friends though.  They'll get fired if they get caught selling them to tourists.

King Soopers

Everyone knows about this deal.  You'll save about $9 off a window rate lift ticket

Your lodging

If you tell them seven days in advance they can purchase the discount lift tickets for you from Vail Resorts.

Snow.com

Purchased online seven days in advance, one is guaranteed the best lift ticket rate.

Places not to purchase them.

It's illegal to use or buy someone else's Epic Pass.  It's called 'theft of services'.  There's a big ($$$$) fine and some jail time involved.  Lifties get rewarded $$ for finding people who do this.  They don't need to see the pass - the scanning software brings up a nice big picture of the passholder.

Buying clipped tickets in the parking lot is illegal too.  Just saying.

2012 - 2013 Arapahoe Basin Legends 4 Pass still for sale

While  most other Colorado ski resorts have ended their 4 Pass sales for the 2012 -13 ski season, Arapahoe Basin is still selling theirs until December 21, 2012.  The Four Pass provides four unrestricted days of skiing, snowboarding, or skibiking for only $158.

The pass is a non-transferrable picture pass that is valid all season.  Season pass benefits do not apply to this pass.  The pass is only valid for the 2012 -2013 ski season.

Colorado Grocery Store Discount Lift Tickets Use Demand Pricing

If you've ever wandered up to the Customer Service Desk at King Soopers, Safeway, or City Market to buy lift tickets, the first thing they ask for is the date one plans to use it.

The grocery store needs this information so they can charge the purchaser the correct price for that particular day.  Prices are not static for lift tickets throughout the ski season.

When demand is high during busy periods, ski resorts charge more for lift tickets.  When business is slow during non-holiday periods, they charge less.  It's called demand pricing.

Lift tickets can be purchased for one day or multiple days.  Each resort will probably have different ticket purchasing rules and restrictions.

If you want to know the price of a lift ticket at the grocery store for a particular day, you'll have to call the store and find out what it is.  Sales are limited to select grocery stores.

Another thing to remember, as I accidentally found out one night, the Customer Service Desk is not always open.   Most tend to shut down by 9 pm.  I had to wait until the next morning to buy items there.

E Books are also available for purchase at the desk.  The coupons are valid until fall 2013 or the end of the 2013 ski season.

2012 - 2013 Steamboat military discount lift ticket

I contacted staff at Steamboat Ski Resort the season before last about their military discount lift tickets.  The information they provided wasn't really worth writing home about.

Steamboat Ski Resort does give military discounts on its daily lift tickets - just not much of one compared to other ski resorts.   Two years ago the discount was around $20 off the daily price.

A better deal for members of the military is the Patriot Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus.  It offers around 6 unrestricted days at Steamboat Ski Resort.

The Patriot RM Super Pass Plus is only sold for a limited time in the fall.  I don't know if the 2012 - 2013 pass is still on sale.

Contact Steamboat through their Facebook page if you need more information.  They are pretty good at responding to questions.

Just a few hours left to buy a 2012 - 2013 Rocky Mountain Super Pass

2012 - 2013 Rocky Mountain Super Pass sales end at midnight December 16, 2012.  There's still time to buy one.  They are valid for unlimited days at Winter Park Resort and Copper Mountain with no blackout days.

After midnight, it's too late to purchase a RM Super Pass, Winter Park Pass, Winter Park 4 Pass, Copper Mountain Pass, and a Copper Mountain 4 Pack.

New RM Super Passes can still be purchased online till midnight at http://skicolorado.com/Multi-Mountain-Passes.aspx#2

Those in the military can purchase a 2012 - 2013 Patriot Rocky Mountain Super Pass throughout the ski season.  Adult and children passes are available.  They can be purchased at the Winter Park Season Pass Office or at Front Range military bases.  Military ID required.

It's currently snowing in the Colorado mountains and will continue to do so till mid-week.

Changes to Winter Park Resort's Gold Card program

There are some significant changes to the Gold Cards for Winter Park's Ski + Ride School for the 2012 - 2013 ski season. In fact, one could say that they no longer exist.

Instead of Gold Cards, ski school staff have handouts that offer a deal for the following month. Currently staff are handing out a flyer in December 2012 that will allow them to receive 25% off a group lesson when a full price lesson is purchased in January 2013.

Discount lesson books are no longer available at King Soopers grocery stores or at Christy Sports either for the 2012 -2013 ski season. Discounted packages were offered for a limited time in August/September and at the Denver Ski Expo in November 2012.

Season passholders which include WP 4 Pass holders can get $10 off lessons anyday. They are also eligible to receive special monthly deals. For December 2012 passholders receive $35 off group lesson only products.

Look for future Winter Park Ski + Ride School lesson deals and other passholder perks at http://www.winterparkresort.com/plan-your-trip/deals-and-packages/lodging-deals-and-packages/passholder-perks.aspx

FYI: remember to tip your instructor after your lesson.

Breckenridge 4 day lift ticket

While Breckenridge Ski Resort no longer offers a discounted 4 Pack or 4 Pass of lift tickets, it still offers a 4 day lift ticket on its website for significant savings.

Many Colorado ski resorts offer prepackaged 4 Pass or 4 Pack lift ticket deals.  Breckenridge is not one of them.

To save money on individual daily tickets at Breck, one's best bet is to purchase them seven days in advance on the Breckenridge Ski Resort website.  The current online price for an adult 4 day ticket is $356.  That's $60 savings over the $416 window rate.  The more days one buys, the more one saves.

Breckenridge lift tickets are also sold in Front Range King Soopers grocery stores.  The savings one receives there is pretty meager though.  One might save $9 off a daily ticket.

The best bet is to buy one of the Epic Passes if one plans to spend more than seven days on the slopes.  They offer unlimited days with a few restrictions.  They have Friends and Family lift tickets loaded on them too.

It's too late to buy an Epic Pass for the 2012 -2013 ski season so start planning your purchase of the 2013 -2014 pass now.

Three days left to get your 2012 - 2013 Rocky Mountain Super Pass

Sunday December 16, 2012 is the last day to purchase a 2012 -2013 Rocky Mountain Super Pass.  After that day you'll have to wait until spring to buy a 2013 - 2014 season pass for Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort.

Winter Park Four Passes and Copper Mountain Four Packs are still on sale too. They offer many of the same deals as a season pass but have fewer Friends and Family lift tickets.

Rocky Mountain Super Passes can still be purchased online and renewed online. The Four Pass products can now only be renewed online. First time purchases must now be done at either Christy Sports, the Winter Park Season Pass Office or Copper Mountain Guest Services.

Sunday Dec 16 is an away game for the Denver Broncos so don't expect to get the two passes for the price of one deal at online checkout. Guess the last chance for that was during the Tampa Bay game.

Visit http://skicolorado.com/ to purchase a pass.

Steamboat $59 Bring a Parent Adult Lift Ticket Coupon

Discount lift tickets to Steamboat Ski Resort are few and far between.  You could say almost non-existant.

There's a coupon from Colorado Ski Country USA that allows a parent to get a discounted adult lift ticket to Steamboat for $59.  And it really is all free.  Matter of fact if you have a 5th Grader in the family, they can get three free lift tickets too.

In the middle of the CSCUSA 5th/6th Grade Passport page is a section titled 'Passport Coupons'.  Just click on the link to download the free coupons.  Print them out and bring it and your child's passport to the ticket window.

The coupon is valid for one adult lift ticket. ONLY valid 11/22/2012 - 12/14/2012 and 4/5/2013 - 4/14/2013.  One parent per passport.  5th or 6th Grade Passport must be presented.

2012 - 2013 Safeway Discount Ski Lift Tickets Available

Those who think Colorado grocery stores are trying to hide the fact that they sell discount ski lift tickets haven't seen a recent full page advertisement in the Denver Post.

Want to see the Sunday November 25, 2012 advertisement by Safeway for yourself?  Here it is.

As you can see, Safeway grocery stores really want you to come buy lift tickets at select Safeway stores.  I'm sure the ski resorts want people to buy them too.

So it seems for the 2012-13 ski season one can purchase discount lift tickets to: Durango Mountain Resort, Loveland Ski Area, Ski Cooper, Copper Mountain, Eldora Mountain Resort, Crested Butte, Ski Granby Ranch, Sunlight, Winter Park Resort, Monarch Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, and Breckenridge at Safeway.

So what's a select Safeway store?  Probably any Safeway along the Front Range.  To be sure, do an internet search for Safeway store locations and call the store that you plan to visit.  It's that simple.

Tips are not included with the price of the lesson

Vail Resorts Military Daily Lift Ticket

Vail Resorts started a new daily lift ticket deal for members of the military that I never found out about last season.  It's not posted anywhere on their website.

I stopped at the Vail Resorts booth at the Denver Ski Expo in November and asked the staff questions about their various pass products and one person mentioned their military daily lift ticket deal.  This is in addition to their Liberty Pass product.

Their military daily lift ticket can be purchased at any ticket window at any Vail Resort in Colorado (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone).  The price does not fluctuate during the ski season.  It stays a fixed price no matter if its a holiday or high season.

Just show your valid military ID at the lift ticket window.  The price last season was around $69.  The price had not been determined for the 2012-13 season as of the ski expo.

So if you are an active duty member of the military, go enjoy your discount lift tickets to Vail.

Two for one ski pass deals for Rocky Mountain Super Pass & Other Intrawest Passes

Colorado is a Denver Broncos state.  In support of the Broncos, Intrawest is running some deals on the days of home Broncos games at Mile High Stadium.   Buy one pass, get one pass free.  This is an unadvertised special.  It's good on the internet too.  It will show up on checkout.

I had noticed people mentioning this on several internet ski forums but it seemed to be happening at random.  I ran into the Winter Park Resort marketing team at a media event and asked what was up.  That's when they let on about the Broncos home game connection.

There are a few more home Bronco games before discount pass sales end on December 17, 2012.

So, GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!
