Steamboat discount ski lift tickets 2013 2014

by G. Kunkel

Steamboat offers very few discounted lift ticket deals for adults.  If it is winter. that goes to near zero.

If one really wants to save money on ski passes to this non-Front Range ski resort, you'll need to do your shopping April through November 1.  After that the deals dry up 99.9% of the time.

Steamboat does NOT offer lift ticket sales in:
  • Any Colorado grocery store
  • Costco
  • REI
  • It does have select specialized in-person sales i.e. Labor Day weekend, Boulder, CU pre-season.
  • It does not sell discount four packs or passes.
  • It did offer a 3 Pass deal over Labor Day Weekend and at the Denver Ski Expo.

TIP A GREAT SKI OR SNOWBOARD LESSON

And holy smokes, the 3 Day Olympian Pass Deal was supposed to expire last weekend.  Looks like they are still selling them today on their website for $179.00

The Steamboat 3 Day Olympian Pass is:
  • Valid 1/20/14 - 2/14/14
  • Days do not need to be consecutive.
  • Non-transferable
  • Picture pass
  • Limit one pass per person
  • Advance purchase required
  • The pass must be picked up in person.
They are available for purchase online at the Steamboat website.
The snow is fantastic in the Colorado high country right now.  Steamboat is getting dumped on.  Better have the ticket to ride.

Update 1/5/14

This offer is still available online.

Last day to purchase a Rocky Mountain Super Pass, RM Super Pass Plus or a Winter Park Four Pass 2013 2014 season

by G. Kunkel

Today is the last day to purchase a Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus which is valid at Winter Park Resort, Copper Mountain, and six unrestricted days at Steamboat.  It's also the last day to buy a Rocky Mountain Super Pass and a Winter Park Four Pass.

If you are looking for discount lift tickets to Steamboat, this is your best bet left.   The resort does not sell them in grocery stores or Costco.   The resort in general does not discount them as it is a destination ski resort.  You'll have to buy them from the resort website or your lodging to pay less than full price.

The Rocky Mountain passes have no blackout dates.  The price is only $539.

The passes are picture passes and are non-transferable.  Everyone will need their own pass.

If you like paying full price for lift tickets, just click through.  Window rates for full season daily tickets were around $109 - $115 at Steamboat last year.  Just saying.

Buy them through midnight tonight at skicolorado.com.

12/21/13 Update:

Those guys are being sneaky.  They are selling the Super Pass Plus and Super Pass again this weekend. So get unlimited days at Winter Park Resort and Copper Mountain with six unrestricted days at Steamboat for only $539.  Three days at Monarch Mountain too!  Sales stop on Monday at 9:00 a.m.

Monarch Mountain lift tickets for sale in Superior, Colorado Costco

by G. Kunkel

I found both Monarch Mountain and Crested Butte discounted lift tickets were available at the Superior, Colorado Costco store.  They are valid all season with minimal blackout dates.

The Deal:

Buy three adult lift tickets for $119.99.   Blackout days are December 26, 2013 to January 4, 2014.

The voucher is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not for resale.  They expire April 13, 2014.

Frontside of offer:

Backside of offer:

Don't know if these are available at other Denver Metro Costco locations.  You'll just have to check and see.

For those looking for other lift tickets.  Do not ever expect to find Vail, Beaver Creek, Telluride, Steamboat, or Aspen Snowmass lift tickets in Costco.  Those are destination ski resorts and they don't sell their lift passes in mass discount outlets.  They did 15 years ago before the season pass wars but not anymore.  Don't look for coupons for them either.  Buy a season pass pre-season if you want discounted lift access to them.

2013 2014 Crested Butte lift tickets in Superior, Colorado Costco

by G. Kunkel

I stopped by my local Superior, Colorado Costco location to see what discount lift tickets might be available.  They generally don't list the Colorado deals online.

Sure enough, there were discounted lift tickets available.  One of them was Crested Butte ski resort.

Front of card

Back of card:

Details:

Get a two day lift ticket for $89.  Valid all season.  Good for skiing, snowboarding, or skibiking.

Blackout days are December 26, 2013 to January 4, 2014, March 10 - 13, 2014, and March 17 - 20, 2014.

The voucher cannot be resold by any means and is non-refundable.  It cannot be combined with any other offer.  Redeem voucher at the season pass office.

I don't know if these are available at other Costco's.  I suspect they are in all Denver Metro locations.

2013 -2014 Ski Lift Tickets available at Colorado King Soopers and select City Market grocery stores

by G. Kunkel

King Soopers is now selling lift tickets for the 2013 - 2014 ski season.  They are available in King  Soopers stores and select City Market stores in Colorado.  Not every store will have them so plan ahead.

From this past Sunday's Denver Post newspaper:  The entire advertisement below.

And a closeup of the resorts offering in store sales.

Available lift tickets include:
  • Keystone
  • Copper Mountain
  • Eldora Mountain Resort
  • Arapahoe Basin
  • Monarch Mountain
  • Ski Granby Ranch
  • Winter Park Resort
  • Loveland Ski Area
  • Breckenridge
  • Ski Cooper
  • Durango Mountain Resort
No prices are listed as the prices fluctuate throughout the season.  Think the price of gasoline at the gas pump.

No sales are available for Steamboat, Aspen Snowmass, or Telluride.   If you buy multi-day tickets for Breckenridge or Keystone, a day or two can be used at Vail or Beaver Creek.  No Vail only or Beaver Creek only tickets are sold.

One cannot buy the 'E Book" at the Customer Service Desk this season.   It does not contain coupons to Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat, Aspen, or Telluride.  One can still purchase the book online.

TIP A GREAT SKI OR SNOWBOARD LESSON

If you want to save real money on lift tickets, do like Colorado locals, buy a season pass.   Online purchase is now available for most during their sales periods.   A Epic Pass, Summit Valure Pass, or Epic Local Pass, or a Rocky Mountain Super Pass are popular choices.  Don't look for non-existant promo codes to purchase them.

Steamboat did have a 3 Day Pass for $99 from Labor Day Weekend to mid-November for in-person sales.   Don't expect them to have any discount pass sales until spring break.   They do have the two day 4x40 Pass, and the 3-Day Launch Pass still for purchase.  The Launch Pass is only valid till December 21, 2013.  The Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus is still for sale through Dec 15, 2013.  It includes six unrestricted days at Steamboat.  Price is only $539 and can be bought online.

Last day to buy a 2013-2014 Epic Pass

by G. Kunkel

Friday December 6, 2013 is the last day to buy an Epic Pass.  Better hurry unless you want to be stuck paying tourist prices for daily lift tickets.  Well, you can still try to bum a local into selling you one of their ski-with-a-friend discount tickets.

Not too many more days left to buy any discounted season pass in the entire state.  Deadlines are fast approaching for most.  So if you're planning on paying the same lift ticket rate as a Colorado local resident, get online right now.

Still time to buy a 6th Grade Passport or apply for a free 5th Grade Passport for Colorado Ski  Country USA member resorts.   Neither is valid at a Vail Resorts ski area.   It's too late to pick up a School of Shred pass for Vail Resorts.

One can still buy a Gems Card.  They revamped the card this year.  The deals have gotten better but the price went up to $20.   If you are visiting our beautiful state one can buy it online or pick one up at a participating Colorado Credit Union location.  Participating resorts include Arapahoe Basin, Eldora, Loveland, Monarch Mountain, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, Ski Granby Ranch, and Sunlight. More information.

Can you buy a ski season pass at King Soopers?

by G. Kunkel

Reward the instructor for a great lesson.

No.  While one can purchase many lift ticket pass products at King Soopers grocery stores in Colorado,  one cannot buy an actual season pass there.

To buy a ski season pass, one will need to visit:
  1. The ski resort when they are selling their passes.
  2. The annual ski show where ski resorts are selling their passes.
  3. Visit the ski resort website when passes are on sale.
  4. Go to a pass sales event being held at a local ski shop.
While in the King Soopers, one can also buy a coupon book filled with ski ticket coupons for $10.  Do not expect to find coupons for Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, or Beaver Creek in the book.  Vail Resorts which owns all these resorts no longer issues coupons.

Buy your season pass before mid-November.  It may no longer be for sale after that.  If your grandmother has heard of the resort, expect the prices to be high and have a sales cutoff date.

2013 -2014 Colorado season pass prices are now increasing

by G. Kunkel

The ski season has started so pass prices are now starting to increase.   If you haven't bought yours yet, you must like wasting money like the government.

Today is the last day one can buy a Arapahoe Basin season pass for $269.  Prices promptly increase starting at midnight.  It includes two days at Taos and other mountain discounts.

Other discounted passes will soon end their sales periods.    Think Telluride, Crested Butte, and Aspen.  Once they are gone - you're a loser.  No purchases available till next fall.

Expect Vail Resorts pass prices to start increasing soon too.  November is almost here.  Sales will stop before Thanksgiving.   And yeah, Vail Resorts does not offer coupons in discount books.  That includes Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, and Beaver Creek.

Buy your Arapahoe Basin discount pass at http://www.arapahoebasin.com/ABasin/tickets/season-passes/default.aspx

Buy a Vail Resorts season pass and contribute to Colorado Flood Disaster Relief

by G. Kunkel

Thank you Vail Resorts for contributing to the 2013 Colorado Flood disaster relief efforts.  From first hand experience, the events of the past week were rather stressful.  While my house didn't flood, plenty of friends houses over in Boulder and Longmont did.

Vail Resorts announced today that it will make an immediate $100,000 donation to Colorado Red Cross Disaster Relief.  In addition, for every season pass sold in Colorado, they will donate a $1 to this fund.

The money will be used to provide food and shelter directly to those affected by the flooding in Colorado.  With over 17,000 houses damaged and 1,700 destroyed, we need the help across the state.

To find out more visit Epic Flood Relief here.

I'd also like to thank members of the Colorado National Guard and the units down at Fort Carson for searching for and rescuing my neighbors.  Things instantly got better on Saturday when I spotted a Chinook helicopter flying from the south over to Boulder from my backyard.  Kinda like the Forest Service slurry bombers flying overhead last summer from Jeffco Airport.

If you'd like to find out how you can help, visit http://www.helpcoloradonow.org/. One can find what items are needed now and the reputable agencies providing Colorado Flood Relief.

A flooded Coal Creek a quarter mile south of my house.  This was taken on Saturday when the water had receded by around 2/3.  The creek is normally about 6 inches deep and about 5 feet across.  It's taken over the Public Road trailhead parking lot in this picture.

A very lucky Coal Creek Village

2013 SNIAGRAB starts this Saturday

by G. Kunkel

The original fall ski pass sale starts this Saturday August 31. 2013 at Sports Authority in Denver, Colorado.   One  can still come downtown and buy a pass or stay home and purchase it online.   A few ski areas will be offering $10 off products for in-person pass purchases or other lift ticket specials.

Ski areas with booths will include Loveland Ski Area, Vail Resorts  (Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone),  Steamboat, Arapahoe Basin, Eldora Mountain Resort, Copper Mountain, Winter Park Resort, Monarch Mountain, and Ski Granby Ranch.  Play Loveland Lotto and you may win free lift tickets or cool gear.

Before entering the store and start shopping, grab a free bottle of water in the tubs outside.  It's always hot inside and outside the store.   An employee may hand you a free t-shirt too.

Shoppers can camp outside in line Friday night and then snag some of the early bird specials on gear and clothing from previous seasons in the morning.   It's a great time to load up on those all important snowboard socks.  Try to find the Sports Authority brand to get the best deal.

There are three floors in the Sportscastle loaded with gear.   Be sure to check every nook and cranny.   You'll never know what you'll stumble across - even an Olympic athlete or two signing posters.

The biggest challenge to Sniagrab is parking.  Expect to park several blocks away and then walk to the store.  The area between Broadway and Speer is going to be your best bet.

Time to think snow.  And don't forget to tip your instructor if you have a great lesson this season.

Are 2013 2014 Breckenridge lift tickets sold in Costco?

by G. Kunkel

Costco sells a variety of discounted ski lift tickets in their stores.  Not so for Colorado.  Only second tier non-destination ski areas sell their tickets via this outlet.

Breckenridge Ski Resort, owned by Vail Resorts, does not sell nor has ever sold their bargain ski passes in Costco stores.

Vail Resorts does offer a number of physical outlets to buy individual tickets but they don't offer much of a deal.  The most popular are King Soopers/City Market and Safeway.

Colorado locals save money on Breck lift tickets by purchasing season passes during the off-season.  These include the Epic Local Pass, Epic Pass, Epic Local College Pass, or Summit Value Pass.

One does not need to be a Colorado resident to purchase one or even be in the Centennial State.  They can be bought online during the pass sales period.  Read; little to no-snow on the ground in Colorado.  If you are sweating in front of a computer in the Northern Hemisphere with a credit card - you're golden!

Breckenridge (Vail Resorts) does not sell a four pass or four pack of lift tickets either.  You'll need to buy another product.

If you are dead set on buying individual Breck tickets, buy them on the Vail website at snow.com.  You'll get the guaranteed best price and they'll be waiting for you at the ticket window.  Nothing to get lost.

2013 - 2014 Wells Fargo 2 for 1 Rocky Mountain Super Pass is on sale

by G. Kunkel

The peaks in Colorado have already received a dusting of snow in August.  Time to start thinking about buying your ski passes if one didn't buy them in the spring.

There are some updates to the deal.  More on that in a bit.

The 2013 2 for 1 Rocky Mountain Super Pass is still limited to college students, staff, and faculty at Colorado and Wyoming colleges.  This is a Wells Fargo Bank policy not the ski resorts so don't complain to them.  They actually think that the bank doesn't do a good job of advertising this deal.

The pass is valid at Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort.  For an additional $100 one can upgrade the pass to a Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus.  That will get one six unrestricted days at Steamboat Ski Resort.

Students who attend an accredited two year, four year, or trade school are eligible to purchase the pass.   An official university ID along with the voucher must be presented when purchasing the pass.

One still needs to met all the Wells Fargo qualifying requirements.  See all the details at https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/regional/colorado-ski-pass

The vouchers expire December 31, 2013.   The offer is only available at participating banking locations in Colorado and Wyoming.

Update3/9/17.  Wells Fargo terminated this program.

Steamboat discount lift tickets 2013

by G. Kunkel

King Soopers doesn't sell lift tickets to Steamboat Ski Resort.  Neither does Safeway or any other Colorado grocery store.  It's a destination ski area in the state and is far away from the competitive Front Range Market.

So where can you get a deal on their tickets?  Very few places.

Lodging

Your best bet is to package your lift pass with your lodging.   Give at least 7 days advance notice so they can buy them for you from the resort.

Buy a Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus

Anyone can buy these passes online from about mid-March through November.

Buy a 4x40 Pass

These can be purchased online from about March through December.

Buy a Springalicious Pass

It can be purchased online from the Steamboat website.  It's valid the first two weeks in April.

There really are very few discounts available for Steamboat.  If you want one, you'll need to plan your vacation there in the off-season.

More ideas can be found at http://skiing.helium.com/how-to/11967-how-to-get-discount-ski-lift-tickets-to-steamboat-ski-resort

If you want to purchase discount lift tickets to Steamboat in King Soopers, you'll have to use your hot tub time machine. They haven't done that since the mid-1990's.

Eldora Mountain Resort lift tickets in Costco

I spotted 3 packs of discount lift tickets to Eldora in the Superior, Colorado Costco location on Sunday February 17, 2013.

The price for the 3 pack was $119.  That averages to around $40/ticket.

The display is up near the front registers.  It is currently on a corner of the main isle leading up to the cashiers.

The display was rather large.  I don't think they'll be running out of them anytime soon.

Remember: You can always buy lift tickets at their retail store in Boulder, CO. It is located at 2775 Canyon Blvd (28th & Canyon). It's open seven days a week and holidays.  Hours vary.

Take the printout to the ticket window to purchase.  It's that simple.

Blackout days for the Epic Pass?

There are none for the Epic Pass.   That includes the Epic 7-Day too.

Ski any day you want at Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, and Keystone in Colorado.  In California, it includes Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood.

Passes with restricted days include the Epic Local Pass, and the Summit Value Pass.  Major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, MLK weekend, and President's weekend are out for these passes. One can use the pass to buy discounted lift tickets during those periods.

The passes are sold from around late March to mid-November.   If you are reading this post during ski season, they are no longer for sale.  You'll need to plan ahead for next season.

If you a member of the ski industry (SIA member, NSAA, PSIA, Ski Patrol, Media)  you may be eligible to attend the SIA trade show in Denver, Colorado and pick up an Epic Pass mid-season.  You'll need to be an official badge holding SIA attendee to purchase one.  The trade show is not open to the general public.

I bought the special SIA Snow Show Epic Pass for $259 on Thursday.  It's valid starting February 4, 2013 to the end of the ski season.  It doesn't come with friends and family discounts.  It's still a great deal though.

Information on Vail Resorts Management Company pass blackout days can be found at: http://www.vail.com/faqdetail/Season-Passes/When-and-where-is-my-season-pass-restricted.axd

It's snowed quite a bit the past week here in Colorado.  Time to hit Vail.

2012 - 2013 Colorado Costco lift ticket availability

by G. Kunkel

Lift tickets for some Colorado ski areas are available for the 2012 - 2013 ski season.  Availability varies by state and from store to store.  The price can vary too.

The Costco in Thornton, Colorado has a three-pack of Eldora Mountain Resort lift tickets for around $149.   It seems Costco's in other areas of the USA have them for $119.  Which Costco locations are offering them and their price is a mystery.  They are not listed on the website.

Durango Mountain Resort in Durango, Colorado also has their tickets available in some of the Dallas-Fort Worth area stores.   The store locations and price are unknown.  Again, not listed on the website.

No sightings yet for Arapahoe Basin in Denver Metro stores.  Give it time, they may yet appear.

If you want to find what your local store is selling, you are going to have to call them.

Don't hold your breath for popular or destination Colorado ski resorts to offer discount tickets in Costco.   Places like Vail, Aspen, Steamboat, and Telluride never sell them in discount outlets.  They don't need to.

Tip a great ski or snowboard lesson.

For a limited time Steamboat Ski Resort is offering a three day lift ticket pass for $199.   The 50th Anniversary Pass is celebrating the ski areas' fifty years in business.  If you've ever wanted a high season discount pass for the 'Boat', this is your best bet.

The pass is valid any three days from January 21 - February 15, 2013.

The pass must be purchased 48 hours in advance and is non-refundable.   There is a limit of one pass per person.  Quantities are limited.

The current lift ticket window rate is around $109/day.   Sixty six dollars/day sounds much better.  This deal was supposed to end December 31, 2012 so this promotion will probably end soon.

The 50th Anniversary Pass can be purchased at http://www.steamboat.com/tickets-and-passes/50th-anniversary-pass.aspx

Telluride Crested Butte Ultimate 6 Pass

Telluride and Crested Butte now have a combo discount lift ticket pass for the 2012- 2013 ski season.   I can't believe it!

These two ski resorts joined forces and now have a pass that is valid for three days at each place for $439.  Considering that a high season window rate lift ticket is going to run over $100, this offers significant saving.  If three days isn't enough, the Ultimate 6 allows the holder to purchase additional days at 20% off.

This offer was originally supposed to expire on December 15, 2012 but it looks it's been extended.  The price jumped up from $399 to $439.  The pass can still be purchased online at Liftopia.com but quantities are limited.

The Ultimate 6 Pass is a picture pass and is non-transferable.  Pass can only be reloaded after all six days are used.  It's valid throughout the 2012-13 season.

To get the pass:
  1. Visit Liftopia.com
  2. Buy the pass and printout the voucher
  3. In Telluride: visit either the Mountain Village or Coonskin Season Pass Office
  4. In Crested Butte: visit the Adventure Center Season Pass Office in Mountaineer Square
  5. Get your picture taken and sign a waiver
  6. Go skiing, snowboarding, or skibiking*.   *only at Telluride
I don't know when this offer expires.
