2013 SNIAGRAB starts this Saturday

by G. Kunkel

The original fall ski pass sale starts this Saturday August 31. 2013 at Sports Authority in Denver, Colorado.   One  can still come downtown and buy a pass or stay home and purchase it online.   A few ski areas will be offering $10 off products for in-person pass purchases or other lift ticket specials.

Ski areas with booths will include Loveland Ski Area, Vail Resorts  (Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone),  Steamboat, Arapahoe Basin, Eldora Mountain Resort, Copper Mountain, Winter Park Resort, Monarch Mountain, and Ski Granby Ranch.  Play Loveland Lotto and you may win free lift tickets or cool gear.

Before entering the store and start shopping, grab a free bottle of water in the tubs outside.  It's always hot inside and outside the store.   An employee may hand you a free t-shirt too.

Shoppers can camp outside in line Friday night and then snag some of the early bird specials on gear and clothing from previous seasons in the morning.   It's a great time to load up on those all important snowboard socks.  Try to find the Sports Authority brand to get the best deal.

There are three floors in the Sportscastle loaded with gear.   Be sure to check every nook and cranny.   You'll never know what you'll stumble across - even an Olympic athlete or two signing posters.

The biggest challenge to Sniagrab is parking.  Expect to park several blocks away and then walk to the store.  The area between Broadway and Speer is going to be your best bet.

Time to think snow.  And don't forget to tip your instructor if you have a great lesson this season.

Are 2013 2014 Breckenridge lift tickets sold in Costco?

by G. Kunkel

Costco sells a variety of discounted ski lift tickets in their stores.  Not so for Colorado.  Only second tier non-destination ski areas sell their tickets via this outlet.

Breckenridge Ski Resort, owned by Vail Resorts, does not sell nor has ever sold their bargain ski passes in Costco stores.

Vail Resorts does offer a number of physical outlets to buy individual tickets but they don't offer much of a deal.  The most popular are King Soopers/City Market and Safeway.

Colorado locals save money on Breck lift tickets by purchasing season passes during the off-season.  These include the Epic Local Pass, Epic Pass, Epic Local College Pass, or Summit Value Pass.

One does not need to be a Colorado resident to purchase one or even be in the Centennial State.  They can be bought online during the pass sales period.  Read; little to no-snow on the ground in Colorado.  If you are sweating in front of a computer in the Northern Hemisphere with a credit card - you're golden!

Breckenridge (Vail Resorts) does not sell a four pass or four pack of lift tickets either.  You'll need to buy another product.

If you are dead set on buying individual Breck tickets, buy them on the Vail website at snow.com.  You'll get the guaranteed best price and they'll be waiting for you at the ticket window.  Nothing to get lost.

2013 - 2014 Wells Fargo 2 for 1 Rocky Mountain Super Pass is on sale

by G. Kunkel

The peaks in Colorado have already received a dusting of snow in August.  Time to start thinking about buying your ski passes if one didn't buy them in the spring.

There are some updates to the deal.  More on that in a bit.

The 2013 2 for 1 Rocky Mountain Super Pass is still limited to college students, staff, and faculty at Colorado and Wyoming colleges.  This is a Wells Fargo Bank policy not the ski resorts so don't complain to them.  They actually think that the bank doesn't do a good job of advertising this deal.

The pass is valid at Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort.  For an additional $100 one can upgrade the pass to a Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus.  That will get one six unrestricted days at Steamboat Ski Resort.

Students who attend an accredited two year, four year, or trade school are eligible to purchase the pass.   An official university ID along with the voucher must be presented when purchasing the pass.

One still needs to met all the Wells Fargo qualifying requirements.  See all the details at https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/regional/colorado-ski-pass

The vouchers expire December 31, 2013.   The offer is only available at participating banking locations in Colorado and Wyoming.

Update3/9/17.  Wells Fargo terminated this program.
