E Book not sold in King Soopers for 2014 ski season

by G. Kunkel

All good things must come to an end and the E Book coupon book is no exception. This season they will not be sold in King Soopers grocery stores in Colorado or any other grocery store.

This year, they must be ordered online or picked up at Tattered Cover bookstore locations in Denver. Additional Colorado pickup locations include Beaver Sports Shop in Winter Park, the Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center in Frisco, or the Outlets of Silverthorne Customer Service Center.

The books are still only $10 with 60% of proceeds going to the fundraiser.

There are great coupons for Copper Mountain, Loveland Ski Area, Sunlight, and Winter Park Resort, There are a mix of coupons for lift tickets and lesson discounts.

The entire list of offers is available here.

X Games discount lift pass for Aspen Snowmass

by G. Kunkel

The College X Pass is back for the 2014 Winter X Games.  If you are a college student 24 years or younger and attending an accredited 4 year college - you qualify to buy this pass.

This 2 day ski pass gets you access to all four of the Aspen Skiing Company mountains - Aspen, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Snowmass.  All for just $84.   Two additional days can be purchased for $53.

The College X Pass is only valid during the X Games January 23 -26, 2014.

It can be bought online, by phone, or at a ticket window.  The deadline to buy one is January 22, 2014.

It's a non-transferable picture pass.  Don't try to share it with a friend or you could have a nasty experience with local law enforcement for 'theft of services'.

Those without a picture RF card from previous ski trips to Aspen will need to buy one for $5.  Aspen Snowmass doesn't use human lift ticket scanners - they use RF cards like European ski resorts.

The College X Pass can be purchased online at the Aspen Snowmass website.

2013 2014 Safeway ski lift tickets are available in Colorado

by G. Kunkel

As during every ski season, Safeway sells discount lift tickets to a number of Colorado resorts.  As usual, tickets to every resort are not available.

Tickets available are the same ones they've sold for the past fifteen years or so.  King Soopers/City Market also sell the same tickets for the same prices as Safeway.

The tickets sold in the grocery store are actual tickets not vouchers so don't lose them.  They should have a small tear-off tab on the bottom of the ticket.  Tear it off and store it in a zippered pocket.  If your lift pass falls off, one can redeem it for a new pass.

Lift tickets Safeway sells:
  • Winter Park
  • Crested Butte
  • Ski Cooper
  • Eldora
  • Copper Mountain
  • Breckenridge
  • Keystone
  • Arapahoe Basin
  • Loveland
  • Monarch

They do NOT sell:
  • Vail
  • Beaver Creek
  • Steamboat
  • Telluride
  • Aspen/Snowmass
Tickets may or may not be sold at all Safeway locations.  Call ahead to prevent disappointment.  Stores located along Interstate 70 and in the Denver Metro area are safe bets.

The tickets to the non-destination resorts will be less expensive than those to the crowded mega-resorts.  The proximity to the competitive Front Range skier market also determines the price of a lift ticket in Colorado.

Ticket prices fluctuate throughout the season.   Prices will be higher during the holidays and school breaks. Prices will be lower during slow periods and mid-week.  The grocery store doesn't set the prices of the tickets, the ski resorts do.

Most residents of Colorado don't buy lift tickets in grocery stores.  It is cheaper to buy a season pass during the off-season.  As they can be bought online, one can buy them from home.

Popular passes available for purchase during the off-season (it's not winter) include the Rocky Mountain Super Pass, Epic Pass, and the Epic Local Pass.  Coupon codes do not exist for purchasing these passes.

Have fun skiing, snowboarding, and skibiking in Colorado. Lots of snow so far this ski season.

2013 2014 Colorado 5th Grade Passports still available to apply for

by G. Kunkel

There's still time to apply to get a free Colorado 5th Grade Passport from Colorado Ski Country USA.  Your child can get three days of skiing or snowboarding at 20 ski resorts in the state of Colorado.

The application deadline is January 31, 2014.  When filling out the form, one does not need an Application Code.  Just leave it blank.  It's for Colorado children filling them out at their school and used for tracking purposes.

It takes about two weeks for forms to be processed once they are filled out.  The passports are then mailed out via USPS First Class Mail.   Passports cannot be picked up at any location.

In January, those who have never skied or snowboarded before can take a free never-ever lessons which includes rentals.

The 5th Grade Passport does not include any Vail Resorts, Inc. ski resort.  They include Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, and Breckenridge.  Vail Resorts has the School of Shred Pass which must be applied for in-person through an event location in Colorado in the fall.

Participating ski resorts include: Arapahoe Basin, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte, Durango Mountain, Eldora, Howelsen Hill, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, Snowmass, Ski Granby Ranch (formerly SolVista), Steamboat, Sunlight Mountain Resort, Telluride, Winter Park Resort, and Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The parents of passports can also get great deals on their lift tickets.  Just go the the 5th Grade Passport website and look for the coupons in the pass section.

Those with 6th Graders can also get a passport.  They can be purchased for $99 through the same website.  They can get four days of skiing and snowboarding at the same ski resorts the 5th Grade Passport is valid at.

Apply for a 5th or 6th Grade Passport at Colorado Ski County USA.
