Most pass products are no longer for sale for 15/16 season

If you are looking for discount ski pass products right now - you missed the boat.

There are a few products still available but most went off-sale over a month ago.  Steamboat was offering the Olympian Pass last weekend.  The Route 40 is still available as of this past weekend.

Rocky Mountain Super Pass and Epic Pass?  Forget it.

Looks like a few coupon books are no longer available either.  I can't find the E Book online.  I haven't had time to check on the Entertainment Book online or at a local Walgreen's.

Generally there are no coupons valid during the holidays.  There are some exceptions.  Resort volunteers and employees get ones without any blackout dates.

The gas station coupons should come online with the beginning of the new year.  Until then, one is stuck going to the grocery store.   Not all resorts offer lift tickets in grocery stores.  Noteably: Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat, Aspen/Snowmass, and Telluride.

Plan ahead next year.   The snow is awesome right now and it is only getting better this week.

It is a white Christmas in the Colorado high country this year.

Where to buy local day lift tickets in Colorado

by G. Kunkel

If you didn't buy a season pass, one will be stuck with the more expensive option of buying day lift tickets.

There are a number of places to buy local day lift tickets along the Front Range.

online

In the Denver area there is King Soopers, Safeway, REI, and Costco.

Along the Interstate 70 corridor, there is the Rental shop next to the truck stop in Dumont.  One can also get the SkiFreeDeals coupon at the gas station in Idaho Springs.

None of these locations will be selling discounted day lift tickets to Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat, Aspen, or Telluride.  Vail does sell multidays to Breckenridge/Keystone which will net you a day at Vail.

The Eldora Store in Boulder does sell day lift tickets to Eldora Mountain Resort.  Loveland sells its day tickets at a number of sites.  They are listed on their website.

If one needs day tickets to Monarch Mountain or Crested Butte, Costco is an option as well.  Those are the only tickets I've seen offered so far for the 2014-2015 ski season.

REI sells day tickets in select stores in Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.  Availability varies by store.  More information on their website.

Expect all the Epic Pass choices valid for the 2015-2016 season to go on sale in March.  If one needs a four day pass to Breckenridge, buy the 4 Day Epic Pass if it is offered.

4 Day Spring Break Pass for Winter Park Ski Resort

by G. Kunkel

March brings big snow to Colorado and Spring Break passes.  Buy now to get the best rates.

Winter Park Resort is offering a four day pass valid in March for $319.  The prices goes up after March 2, 2015.

The pass can be purchased online on their website.

If March isn't your ideal time to ski or snowboard, even better deals are had in April.  At 9000 ft above sea level, the snow is still good.

Check out the April Double Dip Pass or the Triple Play Pass for saving at Winter Park and Steamboat.

King Soopers lift ticket prices

by G. Kunkel

If one is looking for the price of a lift ticket sold at King Soopers grocery store in Colorado, that information is not available on the internet.  You'll need to go to a store.

Prices vary throughout the season.  Prices are higher during the holiday periods.

In general, one saves about $9 off the lift ticket window price.  This is especially true with Breckenridge or Keystone.

One can find better deals that individual resorts offer like 'I Ski with KBCO',  Wolf Creek 'Local Appreciation Days', or 'Hooky Day' at Loveland.   The restrictions on these however are very tight.  Typically, they are just offered once a month and are generally on weekdays.

If one really needs the price of a lift ticket at King Soopers, one can order that information from me.  I will then go to a Front Range store location and get the price for a specific date at a specific resort.  For example, you wish to ski at Breckenridge on March 5, 2015.

The price per resort/ one date is $5.

Be sure to include a note with the name of the Colorado ski resort and date you need the price for.  The lift ticket must be sold at King Soopers.  Please allow a two day turn-around time.

Steamboat lift ticket discounts in grocery stores

by G. Kunkel

As a premier destination ski resort in Colorado, Steamboat has not offered its lift tickets in grocery stores since the 1990's.  Discount lift tickets are not readily available around Denver or the Front Range either.

online
If one wants a discount on their lift products, you'll need to plan months in advance.

Where to buy them:
  • Buy a Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus between April and November
  • Buy them on the Steamboat website 10 days in advance
  • Purchase a 3 Day Pass during the Labor Day weekend event in Denver
  • Purchase an Olympian Pass when it goes on sale
  • Buy a Springalicious Pass when they go on sale
  • Buy a 4 x 40 Pass online when available
  • Buy them in advance with your lodging
  • Buy some add-on days with a Snowy Range season pass.
  • Military discounts are available but the Patriot RMSP+ Pass is a better deal
These are most of the places and times to buy discounted products for Steamboat.  They have never been offered in Costco, REI, or other outlet.

online

Steamboat is not part of the competitive Front Range market.  You will pay a premium to ski or snowboard there.

Do not wait till there is snow on the ground in Steamboat Springs to buy lift tickets.

4 Packs lift tickets for Colorado ski resorts

by G. Kunkel

Four Packs or Four Passes are a common lift ticket package sold by Colorado ski resorts.  They can offer significant savings for the average consumer.

online
These pass products are sold in the fall by the resorts and are not available for purchase during the winter months.  So, if one wishes to buy these, get them before the end of October.   Some may be available in November but they will be gone by the middle of the month.

If you are reading this and the lifts are turning at the resort you wish to visit, you waited too late.

A few lower tier (non-destination) resorts offer 3 packs during the winter.  Those may be your best option if you procrastinated.

Other economy tickets are available through King Soopers and Safeway.  Costco has only carried ones for Crested Butte, Eldora, Monarch, and Durango.   Tickets to Aspen/Snowmass, Vail, Steamboat, and Telluride are never sold through these outlets.

Does King Soopers sell Vail lift tickets?

by G. Kunkel

Yes, King Soopers sells lift tickets to Vail.   But not Vail ONLY single or multi-day lift tickets.

If you want to buy Vail lift tickets at King Soopers or Safeway, you'll need to buy a multi-day for Breckenridge or Keystone first.  Only a day or so will will then be valid at Vail or Beaver Creek.

If one wants to buy lift passes for Vail only, you'll need to look elsewhere.

The only places to purchase Vail only tickets?
  • From their website at Snow.com
  • From the lift ticket window
  • Advance purchase from your lodging
  • Buy during the non-skiing season (aka summer) at sales events or online
  • Ski with a Friend passes (you'll need to contact a season pass holder)
  • Use your credit card points
There are no outlets in Denver or the Front Range to purchase lift tickets to Vail.  No coupon books carry them either.

Vail Resorts tightly controls where the lift tickets to its premium ski resorts are sold.  They do not sell discounted passes in grocery stores or Costco for Vail or Beaver Creek.

Tickets can be purchased to middle tier resorts such as Keystone and Breckenridge.

In addition, parking in the parking garage's in Vail cost $25/day.  There are a few free spots but they are a bus ride away or are privileged locals only information.

Update: 3/9/17. King Soopers no longer sells lift tickets for Vail Resorts.  Buy at snow.com

Ski for $25 at Loveland Ski Area on February 12, 2015

by G. Kunkel

Hooky Day returns to Loveland in February thanks to a local radio station.

Just print out the coupon (no mobile coupon or printer at the resort),  and take it to the lift ticket window.  Hand over $25 and they give you a ticket.

Just look for the coupon to appear on the 95.7 website the week of Feb. 12.  It is not available earlier than that.

View of Interstate 70 from Loveland Ski Area

The coupon is valid for a different special if you can't make Hooky Day.

The coupon has a BOGO (buy one get one free) lift ticket offer good for two weeks after the 12th.

Loveland is an affordable option to the big expensive destination resorts.  It's also the closest ski area to Denver excepting Eldora.

Hooky Day will return in March as well.   FYI, this offer only happens on weekdays never weekends.

Costco Crested Butte lift tickets

by G. Kunkel

As of 1/19/15, Costco has Crested Butte lift tickets at its Superior, Colorado location.  They probably had them earlier but I haven't been to the store in some time.

Costco is not yet carrying tickets for Durango or Eldora Mountain Resort for the 2014 2015 ski season.  One can always try King Soopers, REI, or the Eldora Store in Boulder for EMR lift tickets.

The deal offers two days at Crested Butte for $97.99 for one person.

Lift tickets available at Costco for Crested Butte

Several blackout periods apply.  It is not valid March 9-11 and March 16-18, 2015.  The pass is valid till April 5, 2015.

To redeem, just present the voucher and photo ID at the lift ticket window in Mountaineer Square.

They just got a foot of snow.  Might be time to head down there.

Application deadline for Colorado 5th Grade Passport

by G. Kunkel

The deadline to apply for a free 5th Grade Passport in Colorado is fast approaching.  The $99 6th Grade Passport deadline is coming as well.

Applications for the 2014 - 2015 ski season must be submitted by January 31, 2015.  No application code is needed on the form.  That is just used to track applications submitted by schools.

Once obtained, the passport is only valid at participating CSCUSA ski resorts.  It is not valid at Vail-owned resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, or Keystone).  Vail has a separate program that is only valid for schoolchildren who reside in Colorado.

The application must be mailed in.  It cannot be dropped off.  The passport cannot be picked up either.

The passport is valid for three free days of skiing or snowboarding per resort.  The 6th Grade Passport is valid for four days.

Get more information at the CSCUSA website.

Buy One lift ticket Get One Free at Winter Park on January 22, 2015

by G. Kunkel

I Ski with KBCO returns to Winter Park Resort on January 22, 2015.   One can buy an adult lift ticket and get one free.

BOGO coupon for Winter Park Resort available

Just print out the coupon on the KBCO website and bring it to either a Winter Park or Mary Jane ticket window.  No printing available at the resort and there is no mobile coupon.

Both lift tickets must be used on Thursday so split the cost with someone standing in line at the ticket window.  It cannot be combined with any other discount offer.

Lift tickets at Winter Park are around $120 so this represents considerable savings.

The resort got 10 inches of powder yesterday.  Might be time to head up to the divide.

2014 - 2015 Monarch Mountain lift tickets available in Costco

by G. Kunkel

The Superior, Colorado Costco store is currently selling lift tickets to a few ski resorts.  I stopped by on MLK day and confirmed what ones are available.

As usual, Costco does not carry any deals for Steamboat, Aspen, Vail, or Telluride.  That just is not ever going to ever happen.  Costco carries tickets to less expensive ski areas for those on a budget.

Monarch Mountain does offer a discount package for the 2014-2015 season.  Get three adult lift tickets for just $114.99.

2015 Monarch Mountain lift tickets in Costco

There are limited restrictions.   They weren't valid over Christmas/New Year's.  February 14-15, 2015 are also blacked out as it is the busy President's Day Weekend.

The lift tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be resold.

Back of Costco lift ticket offer

The tickets expire April 13, 2015.

I don't know what Front Range Costco's carry this deal.  You'll just have to find out on your own.

Steamboat 3 day ski pass for $229

by G. Kunkel

This is a rare lift ticket deal for Steamboat Ski Resort.  Buy the three day Olympian Pass for only $229.

The pass is valid for any three days between 1/19/15 to 2/12/15.  They do not need to be consecutive.

The pass must be purchased at least 48 hours prior to first day of use.  It can be purchased online or by calling Central Reservations.

online
There is a limit of one pass per person.  It is a non-transferable pass that must be picked up at the Ticket Office in Gondola Square.

This is a really good deal.   Steamboat regulars know that the resort rarely offers discount lift ticket passes.  Especially during ski season.

Better jump on this better this limited offer disappears at the Olympian Pass website.
