March 2017: The Epic Pass is on sale

by G. Kunkel

The North American Spring is the best time to buy an Epic Pass product.  It is the guaranteed lowest price and comes with extra buddy passes loaded onto it.

Wait until Fall to purchase this pass and one will be paying more for less.  The only exception to this rule is the Epic Adaptive Pass for the permanently disabled.

The Epic Pass is the all-encompassing unlimited pass for every Vail Resorts owned ski resort worldwide with no blackout dates.  It is the best deal if one does a few weeks of skiing every season.  A window ticket at Vail was around $169/day this season.

There actually are a slew of Epic pass products.  Shop the Vail Resorts website to find the one that best fits your ski and snowboard days.  Be aware of restrictions and blackout days for each pass.

Next season will bring Whistler-Blackcomb onto the Epic pass.  Stowe may or may not join it for the 2017-18 season depending upon when the purchase is completed.

An additional benefit is that one can put down a partial payment in the spring and then pay the balance in the fall.  A partial payment cannot be cancelled so think carefully before purchase.

In Spring 2017, if one buys before April 9, one gets 6 Buddy Tickets and 6 Ski With A Friend Tickets.   The Buddy Tickets typically are not offered during Fall pass sales.

Not prominently listed are the Epic Local College Pass and the Summit Value College Pass,.  These are great passes for college students.

As always, pass insurance can be purchased.  As the price of the passes increase, it starts making more sense to purchase.

As always, picture passes are non-transferable.  That means one cannot sell it, rent it, or transfer it to another person.  Use the Buddy Tickets or Ski with a Friend tickets.

I recommend buying your pass within the next three weeks.

If one is a member of SIA, one can always wait.  SIA is not open to the general public and sales are limited to registered SIA participants.
